Banh's Cuisine sits quietly on 9th Street in Durham, offering a straightforward, no-frills atmosphere that centers on serving solid Vietnamese and Pho-style dishes without fuss. This small spot feels familiar and approachable—more about the food and less about décor—making it a practical choice for a casual lunch or midweek dinner when you want something homey and satisfying.

The menu leans on traditional Vietnamese staples alongside some Chinese-influenced favorites, with items like the Moo Goo Gai Pan, Sesame Chicken, and Chicken Vegetables standing out for their fresh ingredients and balanced flavors. You won’t find heavy sauces or overcooked veggies here; the greens taste crisp rather than canned, and the meats are consistently tender, reflecting care in preparation.

Patrons often come here expecting wholesome, comforting meals that feel nourishing rather than fancy. For instance, soups prepared fresh daily—sometimes even made on request if they run out—show a commitment to maintaining quality rather than cutting corners. The fried rice offers a lighter canvas that pairs well with the flavorful sauces served on the side.

The vibe inside is quiet and unpretentious, resembling a neighborhood joint where locals drop by for a quick, filling meal. Seating is limited, and with Durham’s downtown parking at a premium, plan accordingly if you’re visiting during busy hours. Credit cards are accepted, which adds convenience for those stopping in from nearby offices or after running errands.

Banh’s Cuisine tends to draw visitors who appreciate the straightforward pleasure of authentic Vietnamese cooking without the expectation of a polished dining experience. It’s an especially good fit for anyone craving a comforting bowl of pho or a fresh vegetable stir-fry on a chilly evening, and for diners looking to keep things casual and affordable in the heart of Durham.

We had hot and sour soup, ginger chicken and sesame tofu and they tasted like 5 star dishes. They were actually out of the soup but the owner made us a fresh pot. The chicken was super tender, and the plentiful amount of fresh ginger and broccoli was exactly what we needed. It was a delicious and nutritious meal! (Thank you to the owner who made fresh soup for us).

No fuss, no hassle Viet/Chinese joint on 9th street. They take card. If you’re looking for extravagance, go elsewhere. The food speaks for itself. The price confirms the experience.

Good spot for Vietnamese eats, Menu changes often The soup today we got was full of good minced meat and flavor They have plenty side dishes for a few dollars Place seems to be there for a while. I liked the sticky rice with peanuts Nothing fancy but good food ! Parking is tricky for dt Durham, but you can find street parking

They do accept credit cards now. Best Asian food in the triangle. So fresh and flavorful. A true authentic gem below the radar. The owners are such lovely people.

This place is small and simple in design, but dont be fouled!! Their food is great!! The veggies are fresh!! They did look or taste canned The meat is well cooked and the seamse chicken was crispy. The sauce is FULL of flavor!!!!!! Great consistency! The fried rice is actually fresh. Flavor is lighter, but there's so much good sauce, u can easily mix it with the rice. Overall, I love it!! Thank you Banh's Cuisine for a wonderful lunch

We ordered kongpao chicken and sweet and sour chicken. Averaging about $8 each dish. Probably the most best value in town. Don't know how they make money by such a price Maybe they care more about people then business. Both dishes tasted good. Sweet and sour is very crispy and kongpao is flavourful. Anyways. It's owned by a small family business. They are super welcoming and courteous. Lunch time was fully packed.

I will definitely visit again! I think I just didn't order the right thing. I got the chicken curry which didn't really have any flavor. Everything else looked good on the menu and I'm sure next time I go, my review will change to a 5 star
